JDS Duplicate Photo Finder for Windows

Use this page when you need help with scanning, duplicate review, deletion workflows, diagnostics, or Microsoft Store installation.

Start with the built-in User Guide

Open Help → User Guide for the complete local manual with screenshots. It covers the main window, scan locations and modes, match types, recommendations, deletion, Not Duplicate pairs, settings, performance, privacy, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.

Quick help

Before you delete

Exact matches are byte-for-byte duplicates. Visual and Similar matches should be reviewed because they can include resized, recompressed, reframed, outpainted, or edited copies.

Deletion sends files to the Windows Recycle Bin by default. Keep that setting enabled unless you intentionally want permanent deletion.

Common troubleshooting

Too few visual matches are found

Lower the minimum visual similarity in Settings and scan a representative folder again. Review the additional matches carefully.

Too many visual matches are found

Raise the minimum visual similarity. Use Not Duplicate for pair-specific false positives so that exact pairing remains hidden on later scans.

A scan feels slow

Large first scans take longer because each image must be analyzed. Later scans can reuse the local cache. Scan fewer folders at once, use Folder-by-folder mode for large location sets, prefer SSD storage, and keep GPU acceleration enabled when compatible hardware is available.

A file will not delete

The file may be read-only, locked by another app, unavailable from cloud storage, or blocked by file permissions. Close other apps, confirm that the file is available locally, and try again.

Diagnostic bundle

Choose Help → Export Diagnostic Bundle to save a ZIP file with app metadata and the runtime log. The bundle does not include photos or the SQLite image cache, but the log may include local file paths if they appeared in scan or error messages.

When requesting support, include the app version from the title bar, your Windows version, the scan mode you used, what you expected, what happened, and whether the issue repeats consistently.
